Black Woodpecker Feeding Holes in Pine Tree

Feeding site of Black Woodpecker Dryocopus martius on a rotting pine tree. The mix of old and fresh woodchips on the ground show that this site has been used and for some time. Long, vertical, narrow holes, with some near the ground, are typical for Black Woodpecker. Found in a forest near Parnu, May 2009.
